HCM Gene Mutation: Negative DNA test results from 11/2023: Negative for HCM, SMA, PK Deficiency, PKD, FIV, and FELUK, and not at risk for any of the tested known disorders in Maine Coons. |
I had wanted a beautiful Brown Classic Tabby Male for quite some time. I was fortunate to go to Bonnie Pearson of Tremithick and Lydia Chapman of Sassietats Maine Coons to get this beautiful big boy. Zoomie is quite the man, and so very sweet. He gets along with all the other boys here at Makanacoon, loves to be handled, and is always wide eyed and bushy tailed. I feel very sad that Zoomie missed out on being shown as a kitten as most of the shows were discontinued due to Covid. For now, He is truly a gorgeous Maine Coon as you can see from his pictures! |

HCM cardio tested and found to be free of HCM on 09/30/2020 (first screening) Negative for the MyBPC3-A31P Gene Mutation by default - meaning both parents are Negative. We have just run a full DNA panel on Blu, and are waiting for the results to come back. |
Blu came to Makanacoon because I decided that I wanted to raise some blue kittens. He's a very sweet boy, but a bit on the shy side until the treats come out. Once the treats hit the ground, you can do anything with him. He's a polydactyl so we will be able to produce poly kittens again. We look forward to seeing the kittens in his first litter, and expect some Hi Whites (more white on the cat than 4 white feet and white on the chest). |

Trey was Cardio tested on 05/28/2018 and found to be free of HCM at the time of testing. Trey is Negative for the MyBPC3-A31P gene mutation by default, meaning that both of his parents were Negative. |
Trey is a wonderful sweet gentle Cameo (Red Silver) with White soul. He has taken the place of his father, CH Makanacoon's Do I Gotabe This Or That, as a breeder in our cattery, so that Gotabe could be retired. Trey's first litter is on the ground and as you can see by his kittens shown here at 7 weeks, he is going to be a wonderful asset and addition to our breeding program.
With his wonderful temperament, he was immediately accepted by our males, Remember When and Charlie, as a live-in buddy. Trey really gets excited at night when we start to feed everyone their raw diet. Raw diet, although one of the foods he gets everyday, is probably his favorite treat in the world!! |

HCM cardio tested and found to be free of HCM on 10/20/2012 (1st screening). Screened for HCM and found to be free of HCM on 07/02/2014 (2nd screening). HCM cardio tested and found to be free of HCM on 07/17/2019 (3rd Screening). PK Deficiency Test Results: N/N - no copies of PK deficiency, cat is normal. Negative for the MYBPC3-A31P Gene Mutation by default - meaning both parents are Negative. |
Embers is my Big Blazing Red Prince that has replaced his Dad (GC Makanacoon's Whirl A Way) in my cattery as a breeding show male. We took him to one show so far, and in one ring he got a quarter of the points he needs to be a Grand Champion. He is almost the same size as his Dad at just over a year. He will be way up in the over 20 pound range when he matures at 4 years. He is a gorgeous vibrant red with wonderful boning. He is a little more independent than some of the other whole males he lives with, but when he wants to get some loving, he makes it known. Another thing I love about him is his thick shaggy coat, and his tail that is just a monstrous bloom that we want on all of our Maine Coons. He is named after a beautiful country song called "Remember When", which is very nostalgic for me at this time in my life. I live with many memories of people and times that are forever gone from my life, but never from my memories. And so, not a day goes by that I don't REMEMBER WHEN... Remember When has earned 106 points out of the 200 he needs to Grand Champion. Due to the death of all of my family from 2009 to 2011, I wasn't able to continue showing him when he was younger. We have decided to leave him pointed, and not take him back out to any more shows. His kittens are lovely, and quite frankly, I think he prefers being a DAD! But I feel very sad that I wasn't able to finish him or Gotabe. Unforseen circumstances befall us all. |
Here's a video of CH Makanacoon's Remember When competing at a cat show. |

HCM cardio tested and found to be free of HCM on 10/20/2012 (1st screening). Screened for HCM and found to be free of HCM on 07/02/2014 (2nd screening) PK Deficiency Test Results: N/N - no copies of PK deficiency, cat is normal. Gottabe is Negative for the MYBPC3-A31P Gene Mutation by default - meaning that both parents are Negative. |
Gottabe was given his name because there were two males that were Clancy sons. We didn't know which male would take Clancy's place, so Gottabe aquired his name "Do I Gottabe This (a whole male) or That (a neutered male). We still won't know the answer for a while. This boy is more strong-willed than Tippy, but still a great example of being a Gentle Giant. I love his body that is loaded with a classic pattern that is a deep warm gold, a lot like Gigabyte (who can be seen on our Show Results Page). Also nice to get a male with double round bullseyes on his sides -- one on each shoulder, and one on each back side quarter. Since none of our males spray (except for Mr. Boomerang who occasionally forgets his manners), all of our males are rotated into our bedroom every few weeks to lounge at night and get extra loving, and watch TV for a week. I love doing this as it brightens their spirits when they get more contact, and they love sleeping on the bed and just chilling. And believe me, they are good at chilling!! HAHA! One of my greatest loves is to reach out at night, and always feel one of my furry friends right at my fingertips.. on top of my head to each side, and sometimes on my side. I am blessed! I love my Maine Coons, and the Maine Coon as a breed so much!!!!!!!! Gottabe has 64 points toward becoming a Grand Champion. HCM tested and clear at time of testing on 09/29/2007, 03/21/2009, and 10/20/2012. Tested for HCM gene mutation (cMyBPC-3) on 03/06/2007. Result - negative. |
Named after a successful race horse, Whirlie has definitely whirled a way of success through his show career and into many people's hearts. He got many compliments from friends, breeders, and judges at shows as he placed over 200 other champions to become a Grand Champion. Whirlie's favorite pastime is to go to the Flex Gym in Virginia Beach where he is allowed to sit up on a stool and greet all the men and women who come there to work out. He is a sweet, quiet, gentleman; but when it comes to meeting people, he becomes a very animated boy. He replaced his father, GC J-Nine's Go 4 The-Gusto of Makanacoon as one of our top breeding males. (click here to see a photo of Whirlie with his dad, Gus) |

We were very excited to get Purrbodys Boomerang from Karen Hullander and Ann Brna of Purrbodys Cattery. Boomer is what is called an F-5 generation foundation cat. This means that 5 generations back, a very special cat was bred to a Maine Coon, and an offspring was kept which was called an F-1 (a new, one generation part Maine Coon). The F-1 cat was bred to a nice Pedigreed Registered Maine Coon, and the best kitten kept which was called an F-2. The F-2 in turn was bred to a very nice Pedigreed Registered Maine Coon, with the best kitten kept which was called an F-3. This breeding continued until Boomerang was born as an F-5 generation Maine Coon. Today, Boomerang is being bred to Registered Makanacoon Females with their offspring being called F-6 generation Maine Coons. The CFA Association recognizes the F-6 generation cats as showable, so all the offspring can compete in shows for titles. It's through the hard work of breeders willing to work with new foundation lines, that the Maine Coon gene pool is opened up to new cats and new possibilities. With Boomerang, we know that most of his ancestors were cardioed, with health being of utmost importance. We are thrilled to continue the hard work that went behind Boomerang, and are pleased to do our part to continue his lineage. The litters that we have gotten from Boomerang have been wonderful in temperament, boning, and coat. Boomerang is a very gentle soul, and very pleasing to the eye. We love his little black diamond spot on his nose, and loving the Black Smoke color, are thrilled that the High White is added to it. This makes the color possibilities very exciting in his offspring, and different. ** Photo of Boomerang courtesy of Ann Brna and Phil Bornemeier ** |

Clancy is a wonderful, sweet, deep vibrant red boy who came to us from Sandra Sterling of Cooneyisle Cattery just before Sandra retired to Florida.
I had many mixed emotions about getting Clancy - happiness to get such a lovely boy, but also sadness because I knew Sandy hated to part with him. Clancy became a Grand Champion very quickly, finishing the required points at the Winchester, VA show in the summer of 2003. Clancy talks all the time and is our own Chatty Kathy Boy! He loves to look out the windows of his room to see the birds feed at the bird feeder. But his favorite thing is to be allowed to stay in our bedroom for a few days at a time to just be a regular ol' kitty. It's really funny to see him lay on the bed and kick his back feet against his stomach because he's so happy and excited. Like all our other whole males, Clancy does not spray. He has fathered some lovely kittens, one of which is the Grand Premier - GP Makanacoon's For Lion Out Loud. Clancy was tested for SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) and was found to be a non-carrier. We have retired Clancy, and he is living a wonderful life with one of my dearest friends. |

Silliboy came into my life at a time when I really needed something positive to happen. I spotted him as a kitten while staying with Karen Hullander of Purrbodys Cattery one weekend for a cat show in Baltimore. I immediately picked up Silliboy and held him upside down in my arms for about an hour while rocking back and forth in Karen's rocking chair. I just loved his head with his tall, tight ears. He made me think of the lyrics to a song "...wait for your
silver lining whenever clouds appear in the blue. Remember somewhere the sun is shining...". Thus his name became "Mysilvrlining", or Silliboy for short. Something told me that I just had to have him and Karen graciously allowed me to purchase him and bring him home with me to Virginia Beach. |

Lion is a darling deep red first son and spitting image of his father, GC Gooneyisle Kuu Clancy of Makanacoon. At age 12 weeks, he was a little butterball weighing in at 4.5 lbs that would have melted your heart. He purrs like a big cat when cuddled, and kicks with joy when rolled on his back to have his fat little opu (stomach) tickled. |

Gus is the guy that everyone who visits wants to see and hold. Not only is he huge, and muscular, but has a wonderful disposition that exemplifies this breed as being "Gentle Giants." He welcomes all visitors with open paws, and willingly goes into anyone's arms, which is one of the highlights of his life. He loves to be the center of attention and loves the affection he constantly gets from others. That's why he's called the "Lap Fun Gus", a
name he was given by his breeder Janine Smith of J-Nine Cattery when he was just a kitten. Some of his favorite things to do are to take a walk on his harness in our gardens, go for a shopping cart ride at Petsmart, or just be allowed a few days of R&R in our bedroom where he can sleep in the bed and just be one of the boys. Gus holds a very special place in our hearts. We love this cat dearly. |

Acey is a very special boy to me. He was owned by my dear friend Susan Lymbouris of Cremocrop Cattery who started me out with my first Show Maine Coon in 1994. As one of my mentors, Susan taught me about the breed, raising kittens, and showing. In the years we knew each other, despite some hard times, we remained friends, and not too many days went by that we didn't have a conversation with each other about our cats. We were there for each other through a lot of ups and downs, and traveled to shows together for almost 12 years. On June 20, 2006, we lost Susie to lung cancer. I still feel devastated, and still feel the pain of not having her around to talk to and spend time with. Before Susie passed away, she asked that I take Acey and use him as a stud in my cattery so that his pedigree could continue in his kittens. I felt honored to do this, Acey sired some lovely cats whose lineage goes back to early Cremocrop, Makanacoon, Purricoon, and Heidi Ho lines. GC Makanacoon's Remmington of Oldwestcoons and CH Makanacoon's Ice Sparkle of Alopeke are examples of two of his offspring that have done well in shows. If Susie could see what beautiful kittens Acey has thrown, she would be so happy! We are humbled that we have been able to play a small part in helping to keep the memeory of Susie and Cremocrop alive in the years to come, through this wonderful silver boy that Susie affectionately called "Acey Mac". |
